What Can It be Used for


A competency model is the building block of all employee selection tools. As you read on, you will see that "competency" is repeatedly mentioned in every section. In an assessment center, we need to know what competencies we are looking for in order to plan the assessments. For trainings, we will first identify the competencies to be trained and then develop the training content and evaluations around the competencies; in a structured interview, we need to know the competencies before we come up with the interview questions. Thus, a competency model does not only helps to identify the necessary KSAOs for a certain role, it is also an essential component in all employee assessment and selection tools.
